Delete Your Vault Data
This page explains how to delete all vault content from your KeepsakeVault account without closing the account itself.
What data-only deletion means
The "Delete vault data" option removes your vault's memory content while keeping your account active. Cleanup of the associated uploaded media starts with the request and may finish separately. Your login credentials, email address, subscription status, notification settings, and vault membership records remain intact — your vault will be empty and ready to use again.
This is useful if you want a fresh start without creating a new account. Unlike account deletion, this request is not scheduled for recovery: after the successful request, the app does not provide a restore path for the removed vault content.
Delete vault data from the web
You can clear your vault from the web app. Sign in, go to Settings → Danger zone, and use Delete vault data. You'll be asked to type DELETE to confirm.
Or delete from the mobile app
If you prefer, you can also clear your vault from the KeepsakeVault mobile app:
- Open the KeepsakeVault app on your device.
- Tap the Settings tab.
- Scroll to the Danger zone section.
- Tap "Delete vault data" and type DELETE to confirm.
Once the request succeeds, the app removes the vault content, starts cleanup of its uploaded media, and resets the app's reported storage usage. Object-storage cleanup may finish separately. Your account remains active and you stay signed in.
What data is removed
When the data-only deletion request succeeds, the following app data is removed:
- All memories (text, photos, videos, audio recordings)
- All voice snapshots
- All vocab words
- All sealed letters
- All milestones
- All memory series and collections
- Child profiles
- Grandparent sharing links
- Uploaded media files associated with the removed vault content (storage cleanup may finish separately)
After deletion, your storage usage is reset to 0 bytes.
What is NOT removed
The following information is retained because it is associated with your account, not your vault content:
- Your account profile (name, email address)
- Your authentication credentials (you remain signed in)
- Your subscription status and billing references
- Notification preferences
- Vault team memberships (other people you have added to your vault)
Apple App Store and Google Play, Stripe, and RevenueCat keep their own billing and transaction records under their policies and applicable legal obligations. Removing vault content does not erase those provider records.
Export your memories first
Before deleting your data, we strongly recommend exporting your memories. KeepsakeVault provides an in-app export feature (Settings → Export Memories) that lets you download a PDF journal or a full media archive.
Once your vault data deletion succeeds, recovery through KeepsakeVault is not possible.
Delete specific items instead
If you only want to remove individual memories, photos, or other specific items, you can do so directly within the app without using the bulk deletion option. Navigate to the memory or item you want to remove and use the delete option on that item.
Want to close your account entirely?
If you want to permanently close your KeepsakeVault account (not just clear the data), visit our Delete Account page for instructions.
